Lorne Brass was one of the original members of Carbone 14, a Montreal based theatre company originally founded by Gilles Maheu under the name Les Enfants du Paradis. He wrote, directed, choreographed, acted and composed music with the company for over 10 years, creating a hybrid form of physical theatre that was formalistic, imagistic and avant-garde. His work placed strong emphasis on innovative visual staging and vibrant physical acting.
The themes of his work explore poverty and alienation (Vies Privées), revolution and insanity (Marat Sade), and the quest for spiritual meaning in an oppressive modern society (Opium).
He was named "Director of the Year" by the Quebec Theatre Critics Association for his innovative adaptation of Peter Weiss' Marat Sade.
